Yamashita's Koinobori is one of the Koinobori manufacturers in Kagawa prefecture in Japan. There are a few Koinobori manufactueres in Japan, but most of the products are factory made, mass-production things which are made of synthetic fabric and plastic parts. Only Yamashita's Koinobori have been keeping hand-made Koinobori products, which are made of Japanese paper (called "Washi") and bamboo wares.
In 1998, the scarecity and importance of hand-made carp streamer was admitted and assigned as the traditional artcrafts by the government of Kagawa prefecture. At the same time, Mr. Shinichi Yamashita, the craftsman of Yamashita's Koinobori, who has been keeping this unique hand-made Koinobori for over 50 years was appointed as the Traditonal Craftsman of Kagawa prefecture.
